WHAT ARE VEGETARIAN CAPSULES?
HPMC capsules are manufactured from Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose and are globally referred to also as “Hypromellose”.
HPMC is derived from plant cellulose and was one of the first alternatives available for vegetarians. Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose rose to popularity in the early 2000s as it proved to be a stable polymer with a low moisture content that makes it suitable for moisture-sensitive ingredients. It is also extremely resistant to higher than average heat and humidity.
Our empty Vegetarian Capsules, also known as VegiCaps are, not surprisingly, aimed at vegetarians and vegans who are unable to use many encapsulated products due to the vast majority utilizing gelatin as the capsule source. As with our entire empty capsules range, VegiCaps give complete flexibility whilst also saving you money.
Vegetarian Capsules are formed from a two-piece shell. Each VegiCaps is made from Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC), making them suitable for vegetarians and vegans, with the added benefit of also being low-moisture and therefore free from spoiling.
Using empty vegetarian capsules you can effectively produce your own supplements. This can include single ingredients that you simply don’t like the taste of, or even a combination of ingredients to create your own custom formulas. Not only does this give you added flexibility, but it will also save you money as opposed to buying pre-encapsulated products.

The size of vegetarian capsules that you require depends on how much powder you would like each individual capsule to hold. Additionally, the amount of powder that each vegetarian capsule will hold when filled, depends entirely on the density of the product you are trying to encapsulate.
